Combo drive in TiG4 - confirms no new Ti/iBook @ SF

Posted:
in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
Note this is only IF (big if?) the DVD-CDRW combo drive is entered into the TiG4 range.

If Apple selects to revise the TiG4 again (wasn't that long ago it got rev b'd remember), then the likelyhood of new TiG4's - and thus new iBooks - is nullified at SF. There is no way Apple would alter the Ti (even if its something small like the drive), then change the machine AGAIN in TWO WEEKS. Nup.

Makes me believe that SF = desktop, MWT = laptop

If so, we should be seeing a juicy MWSF - 2.5hrs for only 2 new products? (well maybe a 2nd iThing... like iPod). That's gunna be interesting...

Don't forget the apps. The adobe demos, whatever other demos, the G5, Apple apps, iPod apps, the G5, OS X roadmap now at 9 o'clock, the G5, the new iMac, the Apple stores and their success, the G5, another camrea beeming incident, the G5, some more demos, the G5.

Wonder if the G5 will debut or not?

Slippin' in a new drive isn't really a revision....all they have to do is put in drive B instead of drive A, and then make sure that the new drive B is supported by the OS and iTunes, DVD Player, etc.. In other words, it's more of a software issue than a true revision.

So Apple could add the Combo drive to the BTO options whenever, then at San Fran or Tokyo they could bring all the Ti models up to the same mobo, and give 'em the almighty Apollo G4! That would rule!! Not that I could ever afford one, but it's cool nevertheless.

What I'd really like to see is a higher resolution display, 133 Mhz bus mobo across the line, and 1 GHz Apollo CPU. Apple needs to surprise my ass for once!

you fail to take in to account the massive inventory problems releasing 2 revisioned powerbooks within 2 weeks would cause.

Well according to sources that I have VERY close to Apple, we're seeing combo drives in the Ti. No speed bump though. Inventories have been told to be exhausted by MW.....so make of that what you will!! I hope that they do bring out a new Ti, but I honestly think that logic says TOKYO.....I can't wait till March to get a powerbook.

Don't need an inside source for this. The French version of Macwarehouse already lists these two new models on their website along with the two current models. They have both the old and new 667 Mhz models listed at the same price while the 550 Mhz model is slightly higher. The 667 Mhz model may no longer include the Airport card as standard. Its not listed so I'm just assuming so that may not necessarily mean anything.

Click "portables" on the left handside and then "PPC-G4" in the selections list. I cannot give you a direct link as they are using Javascript.

    applenut, EXACTLY

no WAY are apple gunna release a modified Ti (in any way) and then bump it again in 2 weeks.

    MWT is for the laptops.

Just the Ti will look pretty dodgy against a 800-1000mhz (albiet G3) imac... but they have been there (Ti @ 500 vs iMac @ 700 like now)

Oh great As we had enough mac resellers in Europe in the first place. That store is going to be Steved.

Now the problem is whether to buy a 667 with combo, or wait until Tokyo and see what they bring out then!! And who's to say that they will release one then??

Good news for the iMac too, combo at last. Now all we want is a slot loading superdrive.
