Site "icon" in Address Bar of Mozilla

I've noticed in Mozilla and Chimera there's a little picture representing a website next to its URL in the address bar. What the heck is this, how new is it? And more importantly, should AI have one? C'mon, it's the only favicon in my Chimera without one!

    Maybe it's too much bandwith for those modem users... wait that was for Avatars!

    I think maybe they just couldn't make an icon they were happy with. We should have a little contest and let people make icons and them have a vote on which to use

    It's a 16x16 (IIRC) .ico file. You can build the thing in photoshop, then use GraphicConverter to export it to a windows .ico format. Name it Favicon.ico and place it in the site's root, and/or add a meta tag for it in the XHTML head.



    We had a discussion in the Genius Bar about this not too long ago.

    As to why we don't have one... it hasn't really been a terrible priority as nobody has really brought it up until now. I'm sure if somebody came up with a decent icon we could go ahead and implement it. It isn't that much of a problem, as has been noted in this thread.

    I've already made one for when (read: if) we make the switch over to vBulletin.



    UBB simply doesn't have the flexibility to let us add the meta tags for a custom location at the top. What about the default location? We don't have access on the server to get to it.
