Why are posts from two days ago shown as "new?"

I've noticed that the little folder icons to the left of each thread are almost all yellow (for a new thread) rather than gray (for an old one). Everything going back two days is shown as new, even when I quit Safari or even log out. I tried trashing my cookies but it didn't work. Is there some way for me to "reset" the forum so only posts changed since I last visited are shown as "new?"
