12" PB - audio shuts off - news sounds create a pop before playing?

I have a footlong powerbook and am very happy - there are a couple little issues however.

I have noticed that the audio system seems to turn off (not sure how to put this). But say I am using the machine and I get an email after no sounds have played for a bit, the sound the mail app produces doesn't instantly play - there is a pause, a little *pop*, and then then the sound plays. Sometimes it seems like the sound doesn't play at all.

Continual sounds (like music) play fine, and the sound system actually rocks (hooked up to external speaker the sound is fantastic).

Has anyone else seen this, or heard about it? Do I have a lemon here?

I'm not a PwB owner for the moment, but this is a known 'fact' (rather than a problem). Apparently, the sound system is put to sleep after a period of inactivity to save on the battery. What you can do about it? There is an app written for this purpose. Try this, it's freeware. Hope it helps.
