...to the promotion the online Apple Store has on the current Powerbooks?

$3199 - listed price

$3007 - student discount

$2879 - current "promotion"

Sorry to create another powerbook update thread, but I haven't seen this promotion mentioned yet...

The promotion is a further reduction in the price offered to college students.

Go to the education link at the top of Apple's home page. Follow the links as if you are a student interested in purchasing a mac. Select a powerbook. This will take you to a page with the three powerbook configurations (fast, faster, ultimate). When you select one of the above, it will take you to the page with the pecs and the price. Just under the price, there is red print which says "promotion savings, -$100, -$128, or -$152" depending on which powerbook model you select. The only other promotion right now is on the PowerMac. There is no promotion on the emac, the imac, or the ibook.

I posted this in future hardware, rather than current hardware, because I am wondering if anyone thinks this might indicate a new powerbook update.

Well, Apple has always given special prices out for students. To get really excited, we would have to see shipping dates increasing...

Of course, that special promo does put a question in my mind...On second thought, that is weird... <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

Maybe they realized that because the Apple Store charges tax, it was cheaper to go through a reseller even WITH the edu discounts. Of course, my 667 just arrived yesterday from Amazon to the tune of $2444 plus a nifty $100 gift certificate for future purchases...at the old prices, Apple's edu store would have charged $2490, tax included. Now with the current promotion, it would be $2383...that's a bit more reasonable.

Of course, like I said, my PowerBook arrived yesterday. And the latch doesn't work right. Hm, come to think of it this makes me pretty

Interesting. They just take $128 off the price of the PowerBook without explanation. Wonderful marketing.

And just yesterday the Powerbook still had a "new" tag on it. (Actually it still does on the Institutional purchases page.)

(PS: Could you please rename your thread title so it's more informative? Thanks.)

The price you are referring to has been listed since the 800mhz powerbook debuted. The reason you may be confused is because the price is not the student price but rather the price for school purchases- i.e. students purchasing powerbooks through their school (not independently as a "student") have always been able to get this price.

I don't think the powerbooks are due for an update for a while yet.

Couple things. That "extra" savings wasn't on there until today. Second, Apple had the Powerbooks at my school store on $600 discount for about a month, that ended about a week ago. I think they have 800's left but no 667's at the "special" price. It's how I got my 800 for $2499!

Anyway - This extra discount does lend weight to a Powerbook update. Next week? Highly unlikely. Paris? Very possible.

The edu discount price for a 667 powerbook is $2349 (tax not included). But with the current promotion Apple is running, the price for the 667 is $2249.

I'm not sure why everyone is having such a hard time finding this promotion. Like I mentioned in the above post, you have to follow the apple education links. For reference, I used University of Vermont College of Medicine as my school.

The prices remain unchanged for King's College students: $2349 for the least expensive model.

EDIT: One must actually select a model to view the $100 additional savings.

I don't see why everyone is surprised at these prices deals. Everyone complains that Apple charges too much, yet when they lower the price, no one buys because they anticipate new products being released. Just buy the product if it's what you need, don't wait around forever drooling over what the next mac products will be.

I just got something in the mail offering me a free "Lind Auto/Air Adapter" if I buy an 800 Mh TiBook by August 30.

(Also, that promo page link seems to be broken.)

The period at the end is what's messing up the Apple promo link.
