Online Apple Store shipping silliness

My G4 was due to ship today. I called twice this afternoon and both times they said it was finished testing and was going to ship today and I'd have it by Friday.



Two hours after the last call, I get an e-mail telling me that due to some unforeseen circumstances, my G4 now won't ship until the 9th, a 1 week slip!



I call Apple back to ask them why the story changed in just two hours and to see if they could find out what happened and they tell me that there must be a shortage of some parts or something (mine was a BTO) and to just wait a few days.



Then, about two hours after that, I get an e-mail saying my G4 has shipped and it gives me a shipper tracking number. What gives? Is this normal for others that have ordered from the on-line store? I guess I'll believe it when it shows up at my doorstep.
