You can still find the old look at the Apple Store for Education. Of course, now you have to scroll all the way to the bottom right of the regular store to click through to education sales instead of simply clicking in the navigation bar at the top like before. Ugh!
But who cares about the Apple Store layout. I want new iPods, new 15-inch PowerBooks, PPC 970 PowerMacs, Panther... and most importantly, a 1GHz 12-inch PowerBook with 1+GB RAM and DVI-out!
1) Product images on the main page are WAY too small
now. Other than size what can I tell about differences
between the iBooks and PowerBooks now?
2) Great! - Portables, Desktops, Software...I guess you
don't want to sell any Xserve or Xserve RAIDs. Is it that
hard to add "Servers?"
3)The ad at the top is useless. You already have the customer at the store. Stop marketing and start selling by making it easy for them to get the product they want. Obviously you want to do some up-selling and add-ons but this is not the way to go about it.
4) It looks like you REALLY wanted to get the Software category up in lights as well, but c'mon, at what expense? Showing all the software boxes does nothing for you. Split the space in half, put up one box and just list the rest. In the other half put the Xserve products.
Absolutely horrible. Looks like they got some 10-year old to do layout or something. The software boxes look bigger than the notebooks, ugh. The only marginally good thing is the top banner advertising the new iBooks.
Seems about the same to me. More text in the two margins, more pictures in the middle. So it's more densely laid out but the layout is the same otherwise. I do think the old scheme could also have used some improvement though. I'm just not a big fan of sidebars.
Way too cluttered. it's so, so....."store"-like! Contrast the site to their retail stores. Clean and simple with little clutter. My brain hurts just looking at this page. It's like walking through a K-Mart/Wal-mart. "let's jam it to the rafters - surely they'll find something to buy".
This isn't directed toward anyone here, but BFD about a new store design...why boast about it on the front page...I be they leave that little graphic up there for a couple months.
You may be right. Re-reading it now I must have been in a bad mood. If you take out all the accusatory tones and what not there is some valuable criticism in there though.

I have to agree, not really a step forward.
It looks like Apple software show-off site now. The portable selection is bigger than others.. no doubt about the "Year of the notebook".
Gimme back the old look.
Otherwise...enh.
