looks more like an alien anal probe than a cellular phone.

nobody ever thought that this mixture of an old powerbook AC adapter and a palm os interface would make an iphone... (it's clearly a palm calendar interface that has been mirrored. paste it to photoshop, rotate it to normal and mirror the image horizontally, to see the squeezed palm interface.)

iphone? late 2003 yes, now: no.

The Apple Logo is way to big, and what is that stuff under the clear part at the bottom supposed to be? This thing looks horrible.

And Apple has completely moved away from the graphite look - now it's white and silver. And Apple would not label it "iphone," it would be "iPhone" with a capital P. And Apple would probably use their standard font, not that other one. It would have to be much smaller than that, and it would have to have real keys instead of just a screen, and it probably wouldn't have a very poorly chopped Cinema Display frame on it... what a joke.

Judging by the tone of the article, I'd say it's just supposed to be a silly mock-up of the type that magazine designers often do, rather than a serious effort of the Spymac variety, and they're not saying anything new beyond the "we do not discuss products we haven't announced" comment we've already seen (albeit not mangled by language translation).

Looks a bit like a running shoe to me.

Still, should give Jonathan Ive a good laugh on Monday morning...

I think I saw this picture/mockup posted here a number of months ago.

looking at the "photo" more closely.....

round top = original iBook power "yo-yo"

bottom = 2/3 of Apple Pro Mouse (?)

Looks like one of the kiddie prank brigade sent something to an Italian web site that rumormongers about cellular and mobile devices.

Maybe someone who speaks Italian can do a better job translating the article than Google ?

But if'n it weren't for the hard work of these 'kiddie prank'sters, then what would we have to amuse us this weekend?

Gotta love dem folks with too much time on their hands.

    Horrible worst mock up ever.

I think a cardboard box with lines drawn it with a sharpie would look better

Guys, it's a Photoshop job. A mock-up. It's been posted here at AI before...a long time ago (back during the "mockup frenzy" of 2000-2001).

It's obviously parts of existing (or former) Apple products, cobbled together.

besides being made from apple products and iphone instead of iPhone, my favorite part is...

the power symbol, apple, and buttons under the lcd screen are not facing the same direction as the LCD screen and the 'iphone'...i would love to see an aple product as well thought out as this

...biggest error apple ever did was either the upside down apple on the PB's or the seems in the cube

That is, absolutely, the ugliest mock up of anything that I've ever seen in my entire life.

    Well-said.

It would be clean, white, powder-coated on the inside of a strong layer of clear, bullet-proof polycarbonate; the keys would be an inset, nicely beveled, brushed chrome with engraved numericals... the screen color, at least the size of other phones such as the T68i, if not larger... on the front, "iPhone," in the thick sans-serif font Apple is migrating into. Very clean, austere, classy, and most importantly un-phone-like design; very durable, no cheesy snap-on faceplates or extraneous stupid buttons on this phone?most definitely, no keyboard. Voice, keypad, pen (Ink) input. Speakers may be concealed behind the screen using one of the technologies that are available today for flat speakers behind surfaces such as LCDs, and there would also be headphone/headset input. Thoughts?

Not only is this mock up ugly, but it's running Palm OS. I am not sure which is worse.

The whole article says absolutely nothing: it's just a shallow roundup of the iPhone rumors of these past months. The problem is they know so little about Apple that they don't really realize what they're talking about (like "the iPhone should have been announced in Paris, but not all hope is lost...").

As for the mock-up, they don't say anything about it: it might just really be something they did in 20 min to insert a little bit of graphic on the page.

Why limit it to mock ups? Its uglier than the animals at Galapagos after having eaten eachother.

When I first saw that thing (a year ago?) I thought to myself "Hmm. Now THATS how a vogon ship looks like"

    <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laughing]" /> I was thinking Hitch-Hiker's when I wrote about the running shoe.

In any event, Apple won't be happy doing a phone unless it brings something new to the interface/design party, so my guess would be a touch senstive screen instead of hard keys. Not a totally new idea, but it would fit well with Ink.

I think a PDA and a regular phone would be smaller than that. Plus you wouldn't get strange looks from people who think you're talking to a vibrator
