Some highlights:

"The heretofore-unspoken name of IBM?s G4 Replacement is GPUL (short for GigaProcessor UltraLite). It is Multi-core, 64-bit Microprocessor that supports Vector/SIMD Multimedia eXtension (VMX), the generic Title for the Technologies comprising Altivec (a k a Velocity Engine)."

    It's not trash. But it's already <a href="http://forums.appleinsider.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=002302"; target="_blank">posted here. It's on Page 15 at the top.

Thread inforatively titled "Will Apple's G5 come from IBM?"

personally id rather see relavent info that is buried on (for example) page 15 at the top, reposted so that we can have some more in depth discussion on it without having to read through so many pages from an old thread

Me too, but I'll throw in some meaningful IBL (In Before Lock) content just in case. WOO-HOO!

Would my post officially be considered IBL?

Well the thing about that is... we've already had those "meaningful discussions". And unless you read the 15 (now 16) pages, you'll just be repeating where others have already gone. I guess it would be a great life... that which only writes history and does not read it.

Isn't this a significant enough rumor to get its own thread? I'm sick of digging through a 16 page thread....let's start a new one about the GP-UL.

do you mean in addition to this one? then there would be three. or maybe 2.5

maybe you mean this one should be about the GP-UL. but it seems this one is more about being about, or not being about the GP-UL. wow, JYD, i've never known you to be so confusing...

Okay, I've been posting for a while but never learned all the rules. FAQ does not cover all either. So, could someone educate a dummy?

Can the originator of a thread lock, move or delete their thread? I am thinking of those little icons at the end of the thread. (I realize that the moderator can do these things.) So, if I start a discussion that is really stupid, and it's getting bad responses, I can delete it before too many find out how dumb I am? Sounds good to me if true.

What's the usual procedure? That is, when do folks normally lock vs. delete. Move is obvious, whenever a thread fits another topic better.

The Mods take care of all that stuff.

The Mods take care of the locking/moving/etc.

If you start a thread and realize, say, that there is already a thread about that subject just change the title of your thread to Please Lock or Please Ignore and a Mod will come along and take care of it for you.

On another note, this thread has moved away from being about the IBM news at NMR so if you would like to discuss it check out the IBM thread linked above to discuss.
