So does changing the extention of an Music Store purchase from M4p to M4a let you share the tracks freely as if it were a track ripped off a CD?

    How so? What does that mean, they seem to play.

    They still play on your machine because your machine is authorized to play them. Changing the file extension doesn't change the contents of the file. The minute you try to play that file on an unauthorized computer in iTunes, you'll have to authorize it...
