iSight. opinions?

This is great.

Video conferencing has been practically nil on the Mac for a long time. With a firewire camera and 30fps at 640x480 talking to my Mac friends in Montreal or Halifax will be great!

What do you guys think?

I'm so glad they allowed ANY firewire camera to be used as a web cam. I called that one in a thread yesterday. looks fairly interesting. I havent seen the iSight yet. And the G5 is ugly as sin, but it'll grow on me.

Apparently, the new iChat beta has a few bugs. Frex, it does not handle line-initial non-alphanumerics (e.g., a question mark, exclamation point, etc.) properly. (Yes, a bug report's already been submitted to Apple).

I'd expect some problems with the new features, but how did they manage to break the parser so egregiously by adding videoconferencing?

    Kickaha,

that thing does look tiny. It also looks very cool. In fact probably looks better than the tower design (though I admit being a fan).

You could video conference anywhere you have Airport access, with a laptop?

That is just awesome. I'm buying one.

Is it going to come with an app for recording? Seems like that might be useful to me for some of the more in-depth classes. If it's only for iChat, it seems fairly useless from my point of view.

You can use an free app from Apple called Quicktime Broadcaster to record from a firwire camera/camcorder. I've used broadcaster a few times to video conference and always assumed (hoped) that it would have a lovely easy face stuck on it and turned into a webchat app. don't know wether thats what ichat AV is based on but suspect it is.

iSight looks pretty nice. It looks like it has a "real" lens, and that lone puts it head and sholders above the crap out there currently.

dagnabbit iChat AV doesn't suport my cpu

    why the hell do I need at least 600MHz G3 ? ? ? ?

I use a 450MHz crt iMac for my internet purposes.

It's a sweet machine and works grand with iSpQ and such.

too bad, it just says my puter doesn't support video chat

    G5 kick ass though ! ! !

however, I still think the Quicksilver (of which I own two) is the prettiest cpu ever to have come from Apple !

this new case is already growing on me though, too bad it's more rectangular than el capitain, bit of a turn off to me.

otherwise, apple is back on top!

    1. too expensive. panther is cheaper. i guess i'll buy panther first.

    2. there BETTER be a way to use it outside of iChat. video/voice recording lil videos/sound clips would be killer.

    3. connecting it to the ipod would be just pure genius. instant spy kit.

    4. i'm hoping it's this expensive because it's better than the rest (just like the iPod did with mp3 players)
