Using USB to Connect a Sanyo 6200 (Sprint PCS)...Phone Is Not Recognized

I'm trying to use my cell phone as a modem (possibly). However, the cable I'm using (from FutureDial) is not allowing it to show up as a network port. I've tried shuffling the other USB devices I have around (Canon i320 printer and Kensington PocketMouse Pro), but it refuses to show up in the Network preferences when I open it. Is there something I can hack to get the USB drivers on my computer to see it? My set up is as below. And I have been to a zillion web pages that talk about the actual connection process and I understand it...but I just can't get the PHONE to be recognized. Thanks.
