MPC8540 and MPC8560 not for the desktop?

While other sites claim the MPC8540 was to be the begining of G5...

I can't help but get the feeling that the MPC85xx procs are not for the desktop (Power Mac), but indeed they are for:

"network routers and switches, storage subsystems, telecommunications systems and imaging devices."

This document last revised: 12/20/2002; is very up to date, and does make me assume that the 85xx is coming out next year, but maybe not for the desktop??? It's actually very hard to get any information on PPC procs from Moto...

This still lists Rapid I/O, and other things we're all familiar with... So, 85xx is coming out next year?

with "the enhanced PowerPC Book E instruction set"

Yeah, um what's this Book E instruction set???

" Developed by both Motorola and IBM in a collaborative project, the "Book E" architecture is intended to provide customers greater consistency between the two companies..."

"... the new architecture is also designed to maintain software compatibility with existing PowerPC generations."

Yeah, I see in no way how this can be related to the 970; nor could this in any way be related Apple's OSX being able to more easily support any processors. Also, if this is indeed for embedded devics, I see no way how Book E would make it easier to say run MacOS X on those devices more easily.

Yep, I got nothing.

    What was your first clue

Yes, the 85xx processors, like any 8xxx and 8xx processor, are embedded / communication chips, and not desktop chips.

The 75xx would be the desktop G5. Except that it probably will never ship.

[edit] Oh and yes, don't listen to MOSR's crap.
