The logic of their "rumor" is pretty week. If iLife is truly being delayed for new hardware, then what's the point of releasing it 3 days before the new hardware is anounced or 9 days??? This would only make sense if they were holding off releasing iLife the same day as new hardware. I *think* ThinkSecrets is just trying to drum up some web traffic since not much is likely to happen on the rumor front for the next 45-60 days...

Yeah, I guess ThinkSecret is _the_ rumor site known for spitting out bullshit to increase web traffic.

Actually that's what I was referring to - since ThinkSecret isn't exactly known to be a MOSR-like site.

It must be a stretch. If something upcoming is able to delay iLife's release, it's not hardware. iLife may depend on some updated frameworks, but it means a system update, not iMacs with FW800 or another 100 MHz speed bump.

Here I assume that iLife is supposed to run on any PowerPC Mac with Jagwire, rather than only on a certain iMac model.

Well, Thinksecret is one of the more reliable rumor sites.

I give the speculation some value.

Well if there is a new iMac, some significant changes will need to be made to the interals of it. One to support Airport Extreme and Bluetooth. I would suggest they make the Airport card the one they need to totally uncrew to install and put 2 full size DIMM slots on the bottom making it much easier to upgrade. Hopefully 867 and 1GHz speeds on 133MHz bus. Upgrade all models to GF4 MX with 64MB and add a Firewire 800 port on the 17" models. Of course this is my opinion on what the iMac should have. Apple's may differ.

LaCie comes out with a Firewire 2 drive in February. The new or refreshed PowerMac line will have this capacity. Perhaps the two coincide.

Note that the ship time for the 17" model slipped from 1-2 days a few days ago to 3-5 days. Now it has slipped again to 5-7 days.

I have good reason to believe this. I was at the Apple store yesterday, and all the employees thought it was still coming out today. This indicates that the stores DO have them in stock (Or the staff would we eerie). I also was at the ICE convention yesterday (Indiana Computer Educators), and the computers in the booth had the new iApps, and they were final versions. I believe that this is just a marketing ploy by Apple that should not be done. Delaying software without a reason makes them look bad.
