What to do with a dead Studio Display

Posted:
in General Discussion edited January 2014
I just picked up an Apple Studio Display from the university surplus. 17" and I was happy to get it. Of course, it was free. I got it home and nothing shows up. My powerbook detects it and acts as though it is there. It responds to wake/sleep by changing the color of the power button, but nothing appears on the display.

Is there anything I can do? I can HEAR it turn on, but there's just no picture. Is it salvagable? Any suggestions?

Sell it on eBay, saying you "don't have time to test it", and it's AS IS.

Of course I am not saying you should do that. It just popped into my mind, as I think all of these types of ads are for totally dead things. Like someone selling a keyboard or Base Station and saying "not able to test, can't guarantee it"... should actually read "totally dead". Good way to get a few hundred bucks for a paper weight.

As for your display, no idea man. Do you know anyone at your local Mac shop that could take a look at it without charging you to do it? I'm sure Apple would charge you half the cost of the thing to just look at it... this is why I like buying my stuff locally, even if is a few bucks more. They tend to be a bit more helpful in situations like this.

If it's not salvageable, hollow it out and make an aquarium. Get a Betta fish and stick him in there. They don't need much water to be happy... and who the hell else has a 17" LCD aquarium?!

It's not an LCD, it's the CRT. Hey, it was free.

You can still make an aquarium with it - even easier.

Is this supposed to be in the "Apple Innovations" thread?
