Hi all,

just a quick question - i've been searching for a little freeware program that is effectively a timer or stop watch that would shut down my whole computer after a period of time,

if any of you guys know of anything, it would be much appreciated

thanks

I would think that a simple AppleScript could do that. Or a shell script if you swing that way.

low tech: plug it into a timer wall switch

are you trying to limit kid computer usage or something?

applescripts would need to be active for every (non-admin) user, right?

or use a laptop and don't give them the power adapter... voila, time limited computing.

email/websurfing/conservative app usage at min screen brightness = >4hrs

dvd or heavy optical drive load (rip, mix or burn) = <3hrs

+ additional graphics load from gaming, NLE, rendering, etc = <2.5hrs

not only do you limit session time, you may encourage 'productive/educational' usage patterns

if that's tangential to your need, please refocus or add more info

    try versiontracker,

I saw something there last night that did this, it said it could shutdown, sleep and something else. I thnk it was an alarmclock fo the dock. type star in their search panel and you should get the same results i did.
