The Apple Pro Speakers won't work with a PowerBook, as they require a higher powered connector (the Apple Pro Speaker Jack) that is only available (as far as I know) on an iMac or PowerMac.
If your heart is set on the Apple Pro Speakers, you can get an adaptor from Griffin Technology for an extra $40. Personally, I just got a minijack to RCA connector from Radioshack and used my stereo.
