I broke my thumb drive

I have a thumbdrive for my mac lab at school and it worked all well and good until one day. When I put it in the computer recognizes the drive, turns it on, then mounts it. However (this is the funny part), it doesn't show up on the desktop. I can see it in the terminal's /Volumes folder and I can access the stuff through there, but I honestly would rather have the computer put it on the desktop so I can use the nice features that the default offers. Can anyone help me?

I know it's only the mac I sit at because the others recognize it fine.

Please. Anyone?

Any chance someone's changed the Finder preferences on the Mac you're using so as not to show removable media (or hard disks - not sure how a thumb drive is recognized by the Mac) on the Desktop?

Go to Finder -> Preferences and see if something's unchecked.
