FYI, refurb iPods for $169 at Apple

It's the older 10gb without dock but has the non-moving scroll wheel.

    You use a firewire cable, AFAIK.

    Sorry I didn't ask my question correctly..



    If you don't have a dock connection are there other downsides besides not being able to use the dock.

    i just got my 30GB iPod last weekend (i'm going to see about returning it for the 40GB!) but AFAIC, the Dock is only "good" for:



    - holding your iPod upright

    - providing line out (loc'd in the rear) to speakers/stereo

    - connection to your mac



    but i am glad my iPod won't get scratched up if i lay it on my desk, i am glad it can be displayed ( ), and i am glad i don't have to disconnect and reconnect my headphones and my stereo cable all the time.



    with an extra firewire to iPod cable, i won't have to keep re/disconnecting the current cable when i want to transfer files to or charge my iPod elsewhere.
