Looking for more music like a certain CD

So I have this CD with music I really like. I'm looking for other artists that make a similar kind of music. What is the best music website where I can type in an artist and have it give suggestions to artists with similar music?

Have you tried iTMS's "Customers who bought this also bought" feature? Amazon has this too. I find it to be somewhat accurate, more so on Amazon.

there is a website that has a large database of exactly what you're looking for...

they do it with music, books and film, but for the life of me i can think of the name of it, i've scanned my bookmarks but nothing rings a bell. maybe someone will recall it.....it has a funky name.

what is the music? you've got a pretty large wellspring of ears right here maybe someone can help.....

Its called google. just type in the genre of the musc your after.

In the uk there are loads of good online stores to pick from, but the best ones are www.play.com(also states) and hmv.co.uk.

I know exactly what you're talking about, but I can't remember it either. /scratching head.

Is it http://www.allmusic.com? I'll check it and see if that was what I was thinking.

Aha! Found it. Anders posted this a while back. It took me a while to find it because at the time he was going by Anders the white and I had "exact username" selected in my search. D'oh! http://www.gnoosic.com/ Unfortunately, it looks like it's died out. The links go some place else. :/

    Hah-hah!

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will check them out.

The name of the artist is Pitchshifter. Specifically, I want more music like their first release "www.pitchshifter.com". I know they came out with a 2nd album in 2000, and I went to listen to some of it at Buymusic.com (yeah, I know- they're the "enemy", but I don't have OSX). Anyways, I didn't much like the 2nd album. So my search continues for other artists who are doing the sound that the first Pitchshifter was doing.

Anybody got any suggestions for that?

Gnod's music system, Gnoosic, gives info about what other bands are liked by people who like pitchshifter:

    http://www.gnod.net/music/related/pi...ter.asp?so=sup

Musicbrainz.org tell you what other bands are downloaded by people who download pitchshifter:

    http://www.musicbrainz.org/artistrel...artistid=21369

Their info is provided by Agent Arts, who have some more here in their music ecosystem (though not much):

    http://www.musicecosystem.com/artist.php?id=91964

Wikipedia says they sound like Fear Factory:

    http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pitchshifter_(band)

Google Sets (http://labs.google.com/sets) gives the following. And though it usually works better if you use more than one search term, the list is mostly rock bands:

The amazon suggestion is good too. You may want to check amazon.co.uk as well as .com
