Quicktime Problem

For some reason, Quicktime doesn't always play videos fully. Some files you have to click near the beggining once its near the end and it will continue on, others just show the first minute but there is much more. How do I fix this?

    What kind of videos?

I've seen this behavior with MPEGs that are not properly joined. It's not QuickTime's fault that the files are broken, in that case. A tool like Rosetta can often be used to resplit and fix the files, but it doens't always work.

Yep had some mpeg files with the same behaviour... If you are using OSX try watching the mpeg files with VLC

The file is too big or so I have been told. I have found that Quicktime has problems with files over 40 megs. Perhaps it's just bad encoding. I don't know. But I have come across that situation and the common thing was that the file was over 40 megs in size.

The file was not fully download hence it has data missing.

Nope to both. Brad is right, these are MPGs that have been poorly stitched together. QT can only find the first segment of the file and not the rest, so it plays what it can.

Generally, large MPGs are stitched together, so they exhibit this more often than small files. It has nothing to do with the size of the file.

Likewise, all the data is likely there, QT just can't find it because the file was created incorrectly.

ericg is correct, VLC or MPlayer OS X can usually play these when QT cannot. They include workarounds.
