G5 Audio Controllers?

I have a single 1.6 G5 with 1.25 GB RAM and a Radeon 9800 AGP video card...

Can someone give me details about Apples G5 audio controller? Has it changed much since the G4?

If I buy a PCI audio card, what are my choices for a G5? Can I trust 3rd party audio cards with Panther, the G5, etc?

If I use headphones a lot for games, will adding a PCI audio card improve quality?

If I add a PCI audio card to my G5, will I be able to take the load off the CPU and allow it more "ticks" for other game related processes?

How does the Mac G5 audio controller differ from a typical PC Sound Blaster card in terms of flexibility, quality and "robustness" for games?

Who makes Apple's audio chips anyway? Are they part of a south bridge chipset and integrated, or are they a stand-alone chipset?

For info on the hardware, check out the developer notes. IIRC part of the sound functionality is in the south bridge and part is in a third-party chip.

PCI sound cards won't affect anything unless you are recording music.
