Maximize SCSI performance

I just received a Seagate Cheetah 10,000 RPM SCSI drive (as a gift). I installed this drive in my Powermac G4 Yikes! with the Initio MilesU2W SCSI card. I expected greased lightnin' from this card, but according to Xbench, I'm only getting about 10MB/sec from this drive, much lower than the 33MB/sec on my ATA card.

The drive I'm using uses SCA as the connector. I bought an Ultra160 connector; which should accommodate much more than the peak of 80

MB/sec that my SCSI card advertises. Is my adapter a bust? Or is Mac OS X just too lame with SCSI? Or is there some sort of setting that I forgot to set that will increase speed?

Please let me know-after years of hearing about the speed of the Cheetah, I'm getting a very slow speed...very discouraging!
