a friend of mine insists it's new, i can't remember the difference if there is one.

    Nope, no difference. Are you sure he didn't mean Panther has a new Apple logo? I'm not sure about Panther's 'Computer Name' Screen Effect's Apple logo, though...heh, funny sentence.
