My ipod has 5.33 gigs of phantom data

I tried saving an image to my ipod last night and it told me that I was out of room. I erased all of the image files that I had there and the ipod screen says 13MB available, but only 3.95GB of music on a 10G ipod. What gives, is there a way for me to run a diagnostic on my ipod, reformat it, or find out what this data is?

Please help.

You could always reformat it using the iPod Software Update application that should reside in the Utilities folder. At least, I believe it updates. When I ran 'restore' on my filled, 1st G, 10 GB iPod, I suddenly had 9+ GB available.

The iPod reformats differently than disk utility? Never thought about that. I reformatted my iPod (up to 4 times now) and it never worked just right. I formatted again using the iPod update and everything seems to run smoother than ever. Good observation!

Kewl, thanks for the help. I actually figured it out, but when I first noticed the problem I panicked (sp?). Thank you again.
