i have a freind who has a CD out. he has been wanting to put his music online for purchasing, but we're having trouble deciding which service is the best (or how to even manage monetary transactions legally online). i assume you have to already be a member of a recoding label to list with iTMS, so what are the options available? any indie musicians here with suggestions?

thanks for any suggestions...

I checked Apple's contact pages and found absolutely nothing even related to iTunes. If you can't find a phone number or e-mail address either, I would suggest going to your nearest Apple Store's Genius Bar and ask the salesperson at the counter. If he or she doesn't know, insist on using that famous "hot-line" red phone on the counter.

Have him check out CD Baby. It's the #1 service for unsigned acts, and for a small fee ($40) the owner will submit the albums you send him to every major online music service, including iTMS.
