You don't have to do anything special. If your "network" is just a Mac and PC connected together, then a cross-over cable will work fine. If your Mac and PC are part of a larger network, VPC will work with no additional hardware configuration. The bottomline is that you are making this much too hard. Right now, you should be able to see your PC from the "Network Neighborhood" of your VPC.

If your Mac and PC are networked using Ethernet, then your VPC will behave as another PC on the Windows network.
