Question about laptops.

I have never owned a laptop and was wondering how long the screens are good for?

Does a laptop screen last as long as a CRT?

After the announcement of the g4 iBook I'm seriously considering getting one.

Any info would be appreciated.

    not positive but the LCDs themselves hold up rather well, it's the backlight that is the "weak link"



    i think they are rated for 3 years of use at best performance and after that its a crapshoot. I have had my powerbook g4 since fall 2001 and the screen is fine, may be slightly less bright now though \

    My Pismo is pushing five years now (4.5?) and while the backlight isn't quite as bright as it used to be, the screen is in perfect shape.

    I have had my PB since November 2001 and it is still going strong (I am Crossing my fingers though).

    There were a few PB models that had notoriously flakey backlights. I haven't heard of any problems recently. As long as you don't have the brightness cranked up constantly, the screen should last.
