I'm trying to install Panther on a G4 iMac. However the installation fails due to disk errors. Fsck under single user mode indicates an Invalid Extent Entry. Does anyone have a suggestion of how to remedy this?
This is a fairly serious disk error that fsck/Disk Utility won't be able to correct, I'm afraid. I've seen it before, and it's one of those 'just a matter of time' issues where things will be great for a while, (maybe a long while), then at some point you'll have your files start getting corrupted. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
(FWIW, I have the same thing on my laptop, and I'm praying like hell it'll make it another 10 days after I get back from a conference when I have time to do a full reformat and install of 10.3...)
