"The specified server could not be found"

I get this message when I try to connect using IE (5.1.4). I'm running OS10.1.4 on a Powerbook G4 with 256 RAM. There are actually 2 problems. If I click the Internet icon immediately after startup, I can connect to my server. However, if I open some other programs first, then try to connect, it won't oblige me. I am definately connected to my server when I get the "specified server" message. Anyone know what's going on?
