Mouse problem

I have a Logitech Optical mouse which has been acting up lately.

I left click once, yet the computer seems to register more than one click. Thus, clicking delete on a Mail message can delete two emails, and closing a Safari tab can close two tabs. Then I have to go searching for whatever's been deleted. Really annoying.

I'm on a 400mhz G4 with 10.2.8. I've upgraded to the latest version of Logitech's Mouseware and have looked in the Keyboard and Mouse preferences, but I don't see anything that would help.

Any suggestions?

I've had the same problem: something like my computer registering a thousand clicks at the same time. Hovering above the title bar of a window would send it flying to the dock in no time. I resolved the issue by unplugging and replugging the mouse each time the problems occured. I've never installed the Logitech software either. I haven't had the problems since last February, or something like that.
