Ownership & Permissions: Details: Owner: Security question.
When I get info on a file on the desktop and then select
Ownership & Permissions:
Details:
Owner:
and click on the owner, there are is a bunch of what look like login names that come up. For example,
appserver
daemon
cyrus
eppc and lp to name a few.
What the heck are these names? Are they people who are logging into my machine?
Thanks to all who answer.

OMG, that's like the hacker's Who's Who... man, you're screwed.
Just kidding.
Those are accounts created to allow various processes to have varying levels of access to system resources. 'lp' for example is for printing. 'appserver' is just what it sounds like.
It's normal.

(And by the way, you had me going for a few agonizing seconds with your post... My safari window was only partially open and I didn't see the "just kidding" part of your post until I scrolled down.)
Good thing I didn't add more returns.
