old Apple 300e CD drive modification

i'm hoping some hardware techie can help here. i have an Apple 300e CD drive. i've removed the outer casing so i have the 300i drive itself. i'm trying to figure out how i can get it to automatically play audio CDs on its own (without connecting to a computer, ie standalone). I seem to recall some of the SCSI pins trigger the audio CD function? anyone tried something like this?
