Panther Sleep Times Taking Longer On My Imac

After first installing Panther, my 17" iMac 1 Gig would go to sleep in 6 seconds if the modem was connected and 3 seconds if it wasn't. Since installing each of the last two security updates the sleep time has increased. It now takes 32 seconds to sleep. What is happening here?
