Should I cancel my iMac order and buy an iBook?

It seems as though this thing is never going to ship. I could cancel this order and get a 12'' Combo drive iBook instead for $500 less.

I am upset about this iMac shipping problem and I have always wanted a portable. The more I wait the more I think how nice a portable would be all at $500 less. I am pondering an order cancelation.

I probably wont cancel but I am jsut considering it.

    Macintosh,

I'm telling you man, I ordered my imac from the Apple Ed. Store on the 13th and yesterday they said it would definitly ship this week. I think you should just hold off a little longer.

Also, in my opinion, you won't be very happy with the portable. A couple of years ago I decided to get a G3 Powerbook instead of a tower. I realy regretted it afterwords. I thought I would use it for my college classes, but it just sat in my room. Unless you actually plan on taking the ibook around with you, I would stick to the imac.

    But thats just my opinion

Maybe I can have both? I wonder what my Cube is worth and where I could sell it and then what iBook I could buy with the cash.

Well, if you wanna know what you might be able to sell it for, go check ebay and see what similar models are selling for.

Hang in there Macintosh. Really. Good things come to those who wait. If you can trade your cube (which is a sweeeeeet machine) for the iBook then go for it...but if I'm not mistaken cubes are collectors items now. heck...I want one.It shouldn't take too long now. just hang in there. Mine's in Anchorage...iCan just taste the silicon.

Tough it out, man. Unless you really need a portable, I bet you'll appreciate the iMac's speed in the long run.

You've waited this long. Why not a little longer?

Get the iMac for sure. The iBook will become obsolete faster, with it's lower performance and all. The iMac is a hell of a deal.

    Macintosh -

You really need to be patient. By the end of next week you will have your iMac and all will be cool. You are being hasty and by cancelling the order and buying an iBook you are not hurting Apple...it's not like: "Ah well...since you took so long I am cancelling my order...and then spending $1500 on an iBook..."

Be patient . My Dual GHz that was supposed to be here by now will not ship until Monday at the earliest...it's just how it is.

don't cancel your order, not only is the iMac a much better computer(performance wise) but its also helluva portable, I mean for a desktop computer at least. the only thing you won't be able to do with the iMac is take it on trains and planes and stuff like that

Unless you TRULY need a portable, you'll be much happier with the iMac. It's going to run OSX much better than the iBook will.

i think he's right, the ibooks are due.. although thats never made apple move... look how long the old imacs stuck around before gettin killed(i know they're still around, but thats mostly edu and to have computers in that price bracket), anyways the ibook is aging, and they dont have a g4 for it- so they put a bigger screen on it it will get bumped way before your imac does...

personally i need a portable right now, just no money or ibook i would cancel the order, but again i need a portable, if you don't then don't sacrifice the speed for a portable that's *obsolete already...

    *still using a g3

Please cancel your order Macintosh, so that those of us waiting will get ours sooner.

By the way, I don't think you'll see that much of an improvement in speed over your Cube.

Some of us are stuck on a 603e CPU which sometimes takes 1 minute to render a web page..... and some of us ordered on the 8th but will be waiting longer than you because we are not in the U.S. (But I'm glad I am not in the UK as they probably have an even longer wait than those of us in Canadia)..... Ahhh... if only those dog sleds could travel faster to get the iMac here to my igloo.

Don't cancel your order AND order an iBook. Get the iMac and iBook and if you decide that you'd rather have the iBook, sell the iMac to someone who would rather get it right away than wait 3-5 weeks. At the very worst, you make your money back. At best, you could earn a buck or two by installing some software on it and then not 'having time' to take it off before auctioning it on eBay to some sap who is more impatient than you.
