No burning smell from my 15" AlBook but my ipod does have a problem like the one you described.

If i send a lot of data to my 15gb 3g ipod it smells like burning. Hasn't been a problem since i loaded it with my library, because now the transfers are only a few megs at a time.

take it back and "demonstrate" the smell where you bought it.

might be fried gremlin. maybe you cooked a potential problem before it got ya.

I believe the quote is "It tastes like... burning."

    You are correct sir.

As for the burning smell, get that checked out and quick. Make sure your data is backed up and take it to an Apple store real quick. It could be a major problem.
