It really has.

The first US citizen to be arrested on Presidential decree since WWII is not an "enemy combatant" but a felon.

Which brings all sorts of interesting implications for Guantanamo and the War on Terrorism. And the fast-depleting rights of citizens of the US.

Which might be interesting to discuss

It has no effect of the prisoners in G'tmo. Padilla was an American citizen and therefore had rights and privileges that the people held in G'tmo don't have. That's not to say what is going on in Cuba is right, but this will have almost no impact on them.

Are you sure there aren't any American citizens in Guantanamo?

Is anyone else even mildly disturbed by the idea that Americans uniquely have rights that no one else in the world enjoys?

I can sort of see the whole Al Quadea being 'intrinsically terrorist' thing... but the Taliban?

Apart from the few in charge, what's the likelihood that most involved were just poor saps in a position that they had little option but to join the military of the 'legitimate' (recognized & installed by the West...) government of their country?

    In either case...WHERE'S THE EVIDENCE?

Remember the stories we were told during the cold war, of people being arrested because the 'bogeymen' politicians in the Kremlin ordered it, and how those people were never charged, or tried but just locked up?

Of course that couldn't happen here......
