I want an iBook (just venting I guess)
I have come to the realization that...I want an iBook so much. I never did before, especially not in its colored, rounder days. But now, with its upped speeds, new shape, ice color, etc. I can't help but feel this need to own one.
I have a blueberry iMac DV (from late 1999). It's got everything I could want (or need) I guess. DVD drive, external burner, printer, scanner...DSL, Apple Pro Mouse/Keyboard. It's nice...no really it is. I earned $876 to get this one two years ago on March 3. I can't say I wish I would've kept my money and waited TWO years to buy today's iBook because this machine has served me very well, despite its occasional run-in with errors. It's got all these kick-ass songs on it it has helped me download (currently 485 songs). I take care of it, it needs to be taken care of.
But despite this, I still want an iBook. Portability is key...and I want that. But, I can't. I'm not even 17, and scraping to find a job. Job applications all over...and nothing! Don't let my typical teen-skater look fool you into thinking I'm useless and can't do even the most menial tasks. It's so frustrating. Even some pice of sh*t job to raise $ for a 600MHz, CD-RW/DVD iBook (the 12.1").
So, for those who do own one, tell me how you like yours. I want to know...seriously.
It's just so frustrating.

1) Durability. It seems that the iBook feels more solidly constructed to me than my PowerBook. If I pick up an iBook by one side, it doesn't feel like it's going to bend. But with my PowerBook, it feels all delicate.
2) Size. The PowerBook G4 is almost TOO big. It's nice, but it's huge!
3) Battery life. Doesn't the iBook have better battery life than the PowerBook? I forget.
But either way, I love any and all Apple portables! They're just great.

If by IB you mean the International Baccalaureate program. I was in that too! It's always neat to find other people who were in that program.

Like you, I needed the portability (not so much the speed upgrade) and the ibook fits perfectly with my needs. I'm running OSX full time.
Read Charles Moore's articles about "the logical mac" and "subtlety". (Macopinion.com)
why do you need the portability right now? you're 16. Work hard at school. In two years you'll be able to get yourself a nice laptop to see you through college. You'll benefit a lot more from portability then. When you'll likely spend long hours at the library, and travel back and forth from home to dorm, etc...
Plus, by that time you'll might be able to get an altivec capable, DVD burning (maybe) Ghz+ (maybe even around 2Ghz) li-poly battery (8hr+ battery life) iBook.
You probably wouldn't use it much outside of your home anyway.

I am doing my Chemistry Extended Essay right now.
What subjects are you taking? I am doing Chem HL, Physics HL, Maths HL, English A2 SL, Spanish A1 SL and Geo SL.
I am enjoying it a lot. And, yes, I DO have time to hang out and get drunk with friends on the weekends.
BTW, if you want to contact me just go to the irc.macnn.com and I most probably be in channel #macnn under the name Heissenberg.

I'm in IB HL Math (Calculus), IB HL1 History, Physics, IB English, Japanese 4, and IB Theater.
I have time on the weekend to chill and hangout, but not enough to hold a steady job
BTW I'm a junior this year so 1 more to go. So next year I will be in Japanese IB(5) and prob. take IB Chem. and TOK along with w/ SL of the above subjects. Have you done all your CAS hours yet?
if you have the patiance wait til college, think of what will be out then and, heck, you get an old ibook then for like 500.00, i can see it now, 1 ghz super laptops of the future.
not too shabby for a grand.
