ok, i am hoping someone here can help with this question...

i have been trying to research into the true burning speed of the combo drives in the iBooks. i have come across this interesting info:

apple's site lists things different ways- on product page the 12.1" is said to have the 4x4x6x24 combo and 14.1" has an 8x8x8x24 combo. latest developer note says combo is 8x8x8x24 no differentiation between 12.1 and 14.1

i know some iBooks have the Toshiba SD-R2002 drive which is 4x4x6x24 (2mb buffer). that is proven on toshiba's site....

newer iBooks i have seen at local vendor both 12.1" and 14.1" have the Sony CRX800e drive.

tried looking up info on this particular drive. sony's site has no info, but other Japanese sites do. I have come across info that states the CRX800e drive is actually a 20x8x8x24 (8mb buffer) with "burn-proof" (Power-Burn) technology. this drive is apparently the same one used in sony's external CRX85a optical drive...

this site has a pic of the internals of an 14.1" iBook but CD drive pic is too small to make out details: <a href="http://suyama.co.jp/ibook141.html"; target="_blank">http://suyama.co.jp/ibook141.html</a>;

**so- do you think the drive is really 20x8x8x24 and Apple does not state that to not harm the marketing of other products?? is the drive "disabled" by Apple so that it will only burn a max of 8x8x8x24? What do you think???**
