No Firewire cable w/ LSR iMac

Ok, this is the answer to a question from another thread. I couldn't find it so I started a new one. Please don't lock me!

Anyway, thegelding got a firewire cable in with his new iMAC while Mac'sgirl and I did not. I was appointed to call and find out why.

I spoke with Ashley at Apple and she said, no they don't ship with firewire (and the documentation on the website bears this out.)

She told me that thegelding probably ordered one. I told her this was certainly not the case. She spoke with some supervisor dude for a while while I was on hold to confirm that it doesn't come with a cable. She then decided that this must have been some happy accident for thegelding and my order was fulfilled properly. <img src="graemlins/hmmm.gif" border="0" alt="[Hmmm]" />

I gave them thegelding's address and they are sending him a bill for $29.99.

Sorry macsgirl, we're out of luck.

    Hi Thoth2!

I thought everyone had forgotten, and I'm so happy to see this post. Thank you so much for calling. That really was the typical response i was half-expecting. I don't know if it pays for more of us to call and complain, especially if they have the fine print to back it up. (What happened to "if all else fails try threatening legal action?" )

I can't believe theGelding's luck!!!! But I think he did say his cable came inside the box, so I wonder how it got in there... Maybe some new packing guy didnt know the difference between a firewire cable and a telephone cable? Maybe it was a lucky gift for the first batch of imac recipients. i believe i was in batch#2...darn!

    Hi back at you macsgirl.

I was in batch 2 also, although I ordered just about as soon as 1-800-MY-APPLE stopped being busy. Oh, and about 2 sec.s after Mrs. Thoth2 said "buy it."

Anyway, I chose not to threaten legal action b/c Ashley was very nice to me. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> Of course, had the file they directed me to on the website not backed their claim up, all the nice Ashley's in the world couldn't have kept me from flinging flaming filings on them with the screams of "I'll see you in court bucko!!!" As far as you know....

im going to go see if i can find the fine print in question in the apple site. i believe you -- but i just want to read what it says. about ordering-- next time dont ask mrs thoth2...just dial and explain later. that 2 seconds could have been critical.

i forget...who else said they got a firewire cable in addition to gelding? cant we argue that apple nullfied its own policy by sending out *some* firewire cables? hehe.

Just order an iPod and you'll get a cable with it. You can justify the purchase by saying you got the iPod at a discount because a FW cable would run you around $20. That way the iPod only cost $380. That's what I would do... Now, I just need some way to justify ordering an iMac. <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

The iPod comes with a 6-6 cable. You would still need a 6-4 cable for your digital camcorder. it's also convenient for connecting devices to computers like Sony VAIOs laptops...

I've got a 6-4 cable that I don't use (came with my cube, but, after looking in the box, there was no camcorder with it <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" /> What's that about? Maybe I shoulda called Apple...) If someone wants it, you can pay me $5+shipping. Email if you're interested.

Or, if you've got an extra DV camcorder lying around, I'll be glad to take it off your hands

    Try this:

    Buy a pack of DVD-R's for $25 (by mistake.) <img src="graemlins/bugeye.gif" border="0" alt="[Skeptical]" />

So, you can't use them and that's $25 down the drain. Now you need an LSR iMac superdrive to recoup that $25 loss. Of course, the iPod is no good w/o something to store your library of tunes on, so there' another justification.

Like I posted in another thread ...

I was told by Apple Support Rep in the iMac support forums, long tie ago, that if they have spares they toss them in the box. They run out fast. They do it most when they ship a new version like the iMac DV and now the iMac DVD-R.

I can't remember; I'll snoop around for it later. I remember it was one of the pages linked to the iMac page.
