Portrait Paintings

I'm just looking for some (hopefully 800x600 or bigger) pictures of some of your favorite portraits by painters. My friend has to recreate a picture with herself in it and I was wondering from more cultured people then myself, their favorite portraits.

Please provide a link or just post it here

I spent 5 min trying to think of the word I wanted other then cultured but couldn't so I had to stop before I gave myself an aneurism.

I like the blue satin drape.

What do you suppose that feather thing is for?

Symbolic of the world, good intentions turned bad \

I have to say I love that orange picture, those oranges are so vivid! I tried to find a bigger copy of that but the oranges are dull \

Mmmm - art. I love it!

Some of my personal favorite artists for portraits are:

John William Waterhouse - "Boreas" is a beautiful portrait

    Anything by Chuck Close

Various art nouveau pieces by Mucha

And of course: "The Girl With a Pearl Earring" by Vermeer
