Hey gang,

I've been waiting to get one of these things for the LONGEST time!! They're safe now, and I think they'll go on sale real soon now. Great advertisement, wonder how much they'll cost!!?

I wonder if this is the right thread for this?

Anyway, who else wants to get one of these??

The bot looks cool, the film sounded like an excellent idea... more Asimov is good.

Just as things were getting exciting, I saw the sign in the theatre...

it was the sign of Doom... for above the iRobot tag were the words "Will Smith"

and suddenly the expectations go south

from sci fi to shootouts during a car chase

Isaac may be rolling in his grave.

That thing can't be real. A "positornic brain"? My very own Commander Data? Get me some Earl Grey.

I love asimov, he's one of my favorite writers, I love reading science fiction that is actually true to the genre, and isn't just action or fantasy stuff in space.

Foundation is my favorite series but the book I, Robot was fantastic.

I saw the trailer with RotK. I think I was one of a handful that even had any idea what the teaser was about.

    Three laws safe? What?

    The movie looks terrible.

Damn. I am starting to consider a Roomba again just because of this thread.

Anyone have one? Is the charger 100 only or a 110-230 combo?

I'm considering one, as well. Our cat hair/dust bunnies are getting out of control. The reviews on Amazon are mixed, however.

all i could think of while reading the advertisement was woody allens sleeper.

yeah, what this world needs is robots, robots and more movies about robots.

If it's a movie, why isn't there any reference to the movie studio on the site? The only thing that looked like sarcasm to me was the part about it transmitting every piece of audio and video it hears to a central computer... but even so, the site did not smack of a movie.

They should be a bit more obvious, perhaps.

Here's a good way to know for sure: was the preview precluded by the green ratings screen and/or a message about the film not yet being rated?

    TV show perhaps?

    A movie (w/ Will Smith) coming July 16, 2004.

Isaac Asimov's "Three Laws of Robotics"

    1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

    2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

    3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

I think Foundation would translate to a better movie. Not necessarily the whole series, perhaps just the 2nd book.

there will be those who suggest that I Robot might have had some of its thunder stolen by A.I.

hopefully, this Asimov tale won't suffer the Spielberg saccharine treatment AI did
