I currently own an iMac 350 with a dead slot-loading cd-rom drive. Is it possible to replace this drive with a slot-loading cdrw drive? If so, does anyone know of a site I can go to to get one?
another place you might want to look is xlr8youmac.com
those guys have put almost every kind of drive in to almost any kind of mac. they should have a comprehensive list of possible drives, what kinds of problems if any were encountered etc. that site rules. i always check there before buying non-standard hardware for my mac.
LOL, No I don't work for Apple. There's always hope though
Seriously speaking, I know of two people that for some reason couldn't get their CD-ROM drive to work, and after hours of frustration and reinstalling, it turned out that "zapping the PRAM" solved the problem.
I have tried zapping the pram numerous times and it hasn't helped. The drive just spins and makes a chugging sound but won't read anything. I figured it would be a good time to upgrade to cdrw anyway. The reason why I ask about the new drive is because I called a place in california that sells them online and the guy told me that it would be impossible to put a cdrw drive in my computer because it wasn't originally shipped with one. I hate it when people don't know what they are talking about when they give advice!

you could try macsales.com for a listing of possible drives.
