What's the best 19" flat CRT for around 300?

Im looking at:

NEC FE950+

Sony G420

Hitachi CM721FB

Samsung 955DF

Samsung 900NF

I pretty much want a black one but I might make an exception. Are there any other really good black 19" flat crt monitors?

    Those are all good.

I'd choose the Sony over the rest, but it's also more expensive. You might also consider LG's 19" monitors, but they're not black.

Samsung would be my choice. The best monitor I've ever worked on is a Samsung

My NEC FP950 is the best flat CRT I've ever seen. I can only imagine the FE950+ would be just as good or better.

at the office we have nothing but troubles from or NECs. I don't know how many times we've sent back a monitor that has gone wako, but it was more than twice on multiple work stations with another one starting to go bad. i would not recomend them. Sony however, is always good, but as someone said above they will cost you. I just bought a samsung for home use and I absolutely love it, especially since I was able to get it for about 250 bucks with rebate from best buy.

Why do you say that? Saying that's cheap?

Well I heard that NEC was a sweet monitor, plus it's black. Seems pretty good specs to and good price. I know the Sony are good but the cheapest I saw was $355 which I could easily get that except is it really worth the extra? Plus, I want either a black or silver-like color monitor.

My dad actually was wanting an LCD, however I really want a bigger monitor (than this 17" ViewSonic on the desk) and I don't know if the color/sharpness/brightness is as accurate on LCD screens. I would probably much rather have a large flat CRT. Plus also LCDs dont get very high resolution. If I could get a slick silver or black Sony I'd probably do that but I'm looking at the NEC & Hitachi pretty seriously.

The other thing I could do possibly is get a 17 or 18 inch LCD monitor. Does anyone know of any good deals on non-crap quality LCD monitors?

*SIDE NOTE* I would post another thread about this, but once again I am really thinking that we have received another lemon. To start off, printer manager always quits. Second, the system will not remember its settings. I turn the computer on and its changed the resolution, the desktop pic I put on is gone. I have to restart it all the time just for that. Also I always get applications hanging. Then, I tested once Altivec fractal carbon again and got less than 2 Gflops. That's with a DP 1 GHz mind you. I did test again and then the results looked accurate. The other problem is pretty much the crappy GF4 MX problem. I get lines and the dock gets all messed up sometimes. Then I get like weird instances where Im just browsing the web and the text & pics get all weird and like stretch down all the way (cant really describe it). I mean if this is what I always have to deal with from Apple, then what's the point? Should I send my G4 back for another one? Also a minor issue is the case is cracked slightly at the front (like you can see it underneath).

I am quite fond of the Lacie 19" (I am lucky enough to be running 2 of these at work) but they are $399 (but worth it!)

I'm very happy with my 19" Lacie Electron Blue 3. As far as CRT's go it has to be one of the best ones avaliable. I've been using it for 8 months and love it. Well worth the money.

    Hope that helps.

I'm on Samsung here at work (19" SyncMaster 959NF) and just love it. Flickerfree and bright. Wouldn't hesitate buying a Samsung.

    EIZO

    SAMSUNG

    PHILIPS

all make good monitors, however the most important thing is to actually try out the monitor that you buy. A excellent 17" does not mean that the 19" version is as good. Testing and tweaking is imperative!

This has nothing to do with this thread (though I feel like I've read it before. deja vu), but didn't you OC your computer? Don't you think that might have something to do with it? Sounds to me like you screwed your computer... Sorry dood.

There are a lot more quality monitor makers than that.

What tube does the Lacie use? FD Trinitron, Diamondtron NF...?

Ok, Im still going back between these monitors (too many monitors, too little time!!). I really really want a black monitor, yet I have been looking closer & the NEC doesnt have that good refresh rates (like 75 Hz @ 1600x1200 or something). What I'm most concerned with is the refresh rate, because I don't like anything below 75 (can you say headache?) but I wanna be able to run the max resolution at an acceptable refresh rate. The NEC max is like 1792x something but the refresh for that is only 68 Hz I believe. However, I've heard it's a really good monitor and it is in black for $280. Also, it says it's not Mac compatible yet I think all monitors work with Macs right? Will I have problems with it?

The Sony G420S looks good. Is it a beige or sort of silver color? It doesnt look true beige from the pictures. I like the fact that it does 1800x1440, and I think the 1600x1200 refresh is something like 85 Hz.

I have a ViewSonic right now and they are good quality. They do have a 19" that is black but it might only be 1600x1200. The P95f got a really good review at Tom's Hardware, and it looks to be maybe as good as the Sony in terms of specs (does a higher resolution at 70 Hz).

Decisions decisions.......are there any black monitors BETTER than the NEC FE950+? Or should I just get a plain ol beige one?
