I'm looking for a decent 2 button optical mouse for my nieces birthday. She has a grape iMac and is getting tired of her puck mouse. Any suggestions? Thanks....................................

I looked at the macally mouse but have doubts about their quality. i just found a contour 3 button mouse that comes in grape but isn't optical. It seems to have gotten rave reviews so that ones at the top of my list unless I hear of something better.........................................

Yeah I used to suspect Macally's mice. I bought one ADB mice many years ago and it died on the second day....

But I bought the iOptiNet for my iBook and to my surprise the quality is so much better.

You may give it a try Just make sure buy it from the place that has 15-day return policy

Well they don't have any grape/purple mice but I recommend Logitech or Kensington.

you might try to find a place with clearance items from when the whole color thing was big. you'd have to search a lot, but they're probably out there.

or else just go with the one you found that's not optical.

    What Max said

Also, even though she has a grape iMac (and the whole fruit color thing is quite old now at two years, and therefore may be hard to find), perhaps she'd be just as happy with a neutral ice or clear color from some current offerings?

And, like you said, the Contour UniMouse isn't an optical one. BUT, it is grape, has two buttons and a scroll wheel and feels really nice. I used one briefly a year or so ago.

I also had a MacAlly mouse for my iBook and it was okay. Cool thing is that it had a nice long cord that easily stretched from the left side iBook USB port over to the right where I moused.

    I paid $29 for it I think.

That's the auto scroll button, not scroll wheel

Thanks for all the info. I spoke with her and she couldn't care less if its optical or not, so I'm going to go with the Contour mouse. I can even order direct from them at a great price.......................

Just be warned - it has a 'fake' scroll wheel.. it's just a button, not a wheel.

I would really think about getting an optical, but that's just my opinion.

I don't think she cares about the croll wheel-she was just getting tired of the puck mouse. As for optical, its too late-I already ordered it! I think she'll like it. If not she can send it to me and i'll give her the Pro Mouse if the used G4 I'm looking for comes with one.............................
