ide say they are more documents because u can still work on them, when u convert them to a jpeg or a gif, etc. then they images. but as brad said, what does it matter anyways?
InDesign and Quark files are certainly documents. It is probably debatable whether or not Illustrator files are images. I tend to think of them as documents, but then again I think of all images as documents as well...
InDesign and Quark primarily "reference" images. In Illustrator you are creating vector artwork (though you can have bitmap images in the Illustrator file as well).
