controlling volume w/ function keys

I use a KVM switch to share my peripherals between my iBook and my PowerMac. The shifty guys that made it didn't mention that non-generic keys don't get passed on to the machine due to something about driver licensing. (had to dig through the manual 3 times to find that one.) So my volume and eject keys don't work. Eject is not really a problem since esystem X likes f-12 for that, but I have to control the volume on the menu-bar, which is a pain when something takes up the whole screen. Does anyone know a way to map volume control to some of my currently useless function keys instead?
