MPEG-2 Conversion Question

Okay, here's my situation: I have two G5s as client workstations, two Titanium laptops, an iMac, and a dual 800 G4 acting as a backup and file shariing server. They're all connected via gigabit ethernet and most of the time the server sits there doing nothing during the day (backups happen late night).

So, now that you all know the setup, here's the dilema. As a dv studio, we often output our client videos to DVD and output from Final Cut Pro to MPEG 2. Unfortunately, this ties up the computer and this machine is useless while it renders the mpeg. Is there a way to set it up so that the server automatically renders the output? Basically, set up a watched folder that the server renders automatically when a file is dropped in there? Is there a way to set up Compressor to do this? Maybe Compressor and Droplets in concert with Folder Action Scripts? Maybe something similar with something else? Please help!!

mmm.... not sure if this is what youre after, but considering you have g5's:

dvd studio pro2 is capable of background encoding, so it automatically encodes all the mpegs (according to your settings) while you build the project.
