How to repair permissions?

How can I repair permissions on my Mac? And might it help if I'm having troubles upgrading OsX 10.3.2 to 10.3.3? The installer complains something about me not having permission to access some folder on my HD even though I'm the admin user!! It won't allow me to upgrade at all. The new iSync update did install properly, but not the OsX update.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

boot from the os X install cd, select disk utility from the menu bar along the top of the screen, run permission fix then exit, reboot.

booting off a cd isn't necessary to repair permissions, not even on the root disk. there should be a disk utility in the /Applications/Utilities folder on your hard drive. this is one of the most common fixes for issues on osx (or atleast it seems to be) and is covered in our genius bar faq. it's like the second or third item down. the faq is available at the top of this forum page.
