If you actually leave your mac on (not asleep) it runs its own "house keeping tasks" in the middle of the night.
I am sure you can find them if you search around, they have been mentioned on here in the past... You can run them manually and then happily put you r computer to sleep.
I have never used 3rd party "cleanup" apps on my mac, and never really feel I need to.
